It was an unexpected experience…I foster dogs for Save A Dog on a regular basis, but was not prepared when I received word that my foster who I had dropped off at the hospital to be spayed was pregnant! Needless to say, she was not spayed that day. Instead, Ceci, came home and spent the next 5 weeks with my family nesting and preparing for delivery.
On Friday, March 11th, Ceci gave birth to 3 beautiful puppies. My son, Edik, named the first born male Little Eddy, after him. My daughter, Kristina, named the 2nd born puppy (a female), Tiny Tina, her namesake. The last puppy, a female, was named Maria. I am happy to announce they are all healthy and Ceci is doing well.
As a non-profit, clearly our expenses for Ceci’s family is an undertaking that was unexpected. The costs for sheltering and caring for a puppy are always higher than an adult dog due to the number of vet visits and vaccinations that are needed. In addition, we have kept Ceci in our care, longer than anticipated. Ceci will need to continue to live with my family for the next 6 weeks to care for her babies. The puppies will also be in our care for 8 weeks. Ceci is a beautiful dog and her puppies are adorable, they all will be adopted and find new families. Yet, the investment that Save A Dog is making will far exceed the adoption fees we will receive for these dogs.
On Sunday, May 22nd, I will be walking at our Paws in the Park event to raise money for Ceci’s family.
