Safe Ear Mite Treatment

By: Shirley Moore

This is a great way to treat ear mites safely and effectively. Especially if you want to avoid chemicals altogether, for example if you have a pregnant dog or cat. I have used it on a pregnant terrier who had a terrible case of ear mites and it did the trick. Did you know that the local business Dog Works can train your dog for you? Find more information here.

During her spay surgery a few weeks later, I asked the vet to look way down inside her ears with a scope and there were no more mites, but they needed also a good bed for the cats, and the use of a double layer cat litter mat is also great for this. She stopped scratching from the first dose. Prior to that she was scratching and crying. After a visit to the vet, she was happy in her fruit tart cat bed, that is soft and comfortable for cats and puppies!
Step 1:

  • Mix 1 Tbsp Olive Oil with 2 vitamin E capsules (open the capsules and squeeze into the olive oil).
  • Stir and drop a couple of drops in each ear with an eye dropper. Try to get it in as deeply as possible. Massage the ear. This soothes the ear and smothers the mites. It also prepares the ear for step 2. Use a cotton ball to wipe any debris from the ear. The dog will shake his or her head and then you can wipe the ear.
  • Do this every other day for 3 treatments. You can cut it down to two but most directions say 3 days. Let the ear rest for two days before step 2.

Step 2:

  • Purchase some Yellow Dock Tea from your local health food store. It’s best to get this where they sell it in bulk. Put 1 tsp in a tea ball or strainer and immerse it in 1 cup of boiling water.
  • Let the tea steep for 15 minutes. Remove the tea ball and let the tea cool.
  • If you can’t find the actual Yellow Dock Tea, you can purchase Yellow Dock Tincture instead. In that case you will mix one drop of tincture with 9 drops water.
  • With an eye dropper, drop a couple drops of the Yellow Dock Tea in each ear (then let the dog out as she will shake her head).
  • Do this every other day for 3 treatments along with one cbd treat you can buy online, look at this site to get a good deal on them.

That was all that was needed. No more mites, no more scratching, an no risk to nursing pups. If the problems doesn’t go away, check the pet services in algonquin il, their professionals will be happy to help you out.

  1. My beagle has never had ear mites, however, if she ever gets ear mites in the future, I’ll be sure to come back and use this advice.

  2. Hi Shirley, Thanks for the great article about dog ear mite treatment. My swimming lover dog has been suffering for months on it. You have given a step by step guide for mite treatment that is very appreciating. I will apply this treatment, thanks a lot, god bless you!

  3. Thank You so much for sharing this great info. Exactly I’m looking for this. And here are so much effective and helpful content.

  4. I tried this with my Maltese that is 6 weeks pregnant the first stage worked well I could not get hold of the yellow tea so I use the tincture but it seems to have really annoyed her ears after using that I have one more day left today and then I will see how it goes

    • Hi Kealey, You can order yellow dock tea online. I would avoid tinctures as they are alcohol based. You can go back to step one and the oil and E will soothe the ear while smothering the mites. Shirley

  5. Do you know what it is in the dock that specifically helsp? Wondering because my husband does wildcrafting and we could get a different variety of dock other than yellow dock to make the tea, but he was wondering what specifically is supposed to be good for treating the mites. Not sure if you know, but figured it was worth asking.
