Lucky dog is now with Bud. As some of you knew Lucky had not been feeling well for a while. He had not been eating well for some time now and was losing weight. I thought it might be the Lyme disease acting up again. Three weeks or so I brought him to the vets and he was tested for everything and it all came back pretty much normal. As my vet was concerned about the lack of appetite and weight loss he recommended an ultrasound. By this time I knew something was very wrong, he was not his happy self, no energy, looked very sad, losing Bud did not help. He had his ultrasound last Friday and it showed a tumor in his abdomen. My vet suspected pancreatic cancer and said I had two options. 1 keep him comfortable and put him to sleep in a while. 2 There was a slight chance it was something that could be removed and give him some extra time. So we decided on exploratory surgery with the plan if the vet saw it was as bad as he suspected Lucky would be put to sleep on the table and not bring him out of it. So I brought him in for the surgery and stayed with him while the pre anesthesia took affect. The vet noticed he was not breathing right and did a chest x-ray and discovered cancer throughout his chest. He realized the surgery had no chance of helping and put Lucky to sleep around 10:00 AM today.

When i adopted him two and half years ago I thought he would take care of me when Bud left us, but fate had other plans. While I wish we had more time together I'm glad I was able to provide him with a good home at the end of his life.I will never forget his happy personality and gentle ways. He was a sweet and loving dog to the very end, even managing to give me the occasional smile and wag of the tale.I will miss him very much.
