Hello,

We are crushed to report that our beloved Sophie – adopted from SaveADog in 2011 when she was 7 years – has passed away after a valiant (and graceful as ever) fight with failing kidneys and deteriorating hind leg musculature.  Sophie led the dance in our family for nearly 8 years and we learned through her behavior a great deal about her background and what she’d endured in the first seven years of her life (with a family in the North Shore who put her in a kill shelter when she was 7  – from where she was rescued by her foster mom, who mercifully connected her to SaveADog).  

SaveADog certainly saved this lovely soul, as Sophie found her forever home at long last and set about bringing her pack (my husband and two sons) into line.  Brightly intelligent (border collie as well as Australian shepherd) Sophie quietly worked every day, displaying best canine manners including greeting visitors to our day-time offices every day or running with the big boys at the local town forest – Sophie was all in for whatever was happening.

The photo of Sophie wrapped in a Stow Soccer blanket was made during one of her several cross-country drives (to Wyoming). She demurred when offered the chance to go outside to do her toileting… it was -45F with the Midwest at that time in the grip of a polar vortex.
