Dear Save-a-Dog,
With broken hearts we are writing to let you know of the passing of Lolo Anderson on December 27, 2023.
She was16.5+ years old.
She was a remarkably healthy dog all her life, but declining kidney function and other age-related issues took a toll on her this past year. We, as a family, decided to help her go softly, without pain, in her home and being kissed by her loving human family.
Our family adopted a three-month-old hound mix named Wendy (renamed Lolo) from your organization in 2007. We were impressed at the time at how carefully we were vetted as potential adoptees. It was obviously very important to Save-a-Dog that you make an appropriate and lasting match. It was an appropriate and long-lasting match, indeed.
We knew that she came with a group of dogs from West Virginia, along with her litter-mates Winnie, Walter and Woofie.
We didn't know what kind of mix she was so for years we just called her a "mystery hound".
We recently had her DNA tested and the results surprised us; 50% Border Collie/50% Redbone Coonhound!
But the results also made sense to us; she looked just like a Border Collie with a Redbone Coonhound coat on! It also made sense that she was forever trying to keep her "herd" all together and in the right place.
We loved her so dearly and cried like children at her goodbye. We're still crying.
Thank you for bringing Lolo into our lives and for all that you do to bring animals and humans together.
In Gratitude,
David, Elaine, Winslow & Adrienne Anderson
